She also demonstrates a lot of opportunities to be self-righteous and hot headed like Agnes but keeps her cool and remains sensitive to situation at hand like in the Rhimdeahl arc where she remains diplomatic and doesn't force her sense of justice on the Church because she's a pragmatist and knows it would do more harm than good, even if what is going on isn't right. She actually has a very knightly/queenly personality to her and she's very mature.
If she were male, I could see her being the player protagonist even. Her personality is subdued but she has a lot of great moments where she really demonstrates her leadership skills, and I actually think she's a good character by JRPG standards. She's also charismatic and a natural diplomat. Seth has a much more sardonic personality than Tiz which I enjoy and Gloria is way less self righteous and more logical than Agnes.
Seth and Gloria are just better written than Tiz and Agnes, and the lack of forced romance (at least as far as I am, which is chapter 5 improves the narrative as well imo. Sure, Seth lost his whole crew and supposedly his friends, but from the way he acts, you could assume he didn't personally know a single person on that ship or actively disliked them. Tiz lost everything and everyone he cared about and was promised that completing the quest would restore his homeland. Seth is even worse, he has no personal motivation for going with Gloria other than he has nothing better to do and made a promise to a guy he literally just met. In BD we see from the onset that the wind has stopped and the oceans are stagnant these are very present threats to the world that impose a sense of urgency for the quest. Even when we do see the crystal's power "running wild" it's just a city that's kind of flooded and another that has more trees than it should. That's.fine I guess, but there doesn't seem to be any greater push for her to complete her journey than the ambiguous idea that something bad could happen or that they could be misused.
Gloria is just duty bound to get back the crystals. 3, but motivation should be well established by this point. How do Seth and Gloria have good motivations? Granted, I'm only in Ch. And iirc Ringabel only tagged along to meet Edea, who he never even met! (well, he did but didn't remember) Power of boners again! Magnolia had a solid reason, the Ba'al who destroyed the moon was on Kaiser's ship, but she (and the entire party lol) was in little hurry to go after it as they got sidetracked multiple times, it doesn't help that she became a generic shonen anime female character obsessed with the protag. Lol but for real, Tiz had his home destroyed and everyone he knew died, but sure he didn't need therapy or had anything better to do other than following some shady girl he met 5 minutes before, power of boners basically Edea was brainwashed all her life that Crystalism (and Agnes by extension) was evil but suddenly took a heel face turn and betrayed her family and country because a teammate stepped out of line? I don't buy it. Tbh I don't know which is worse.Īnd excuse me but what more important motive is there then busting ba'als? Yew has more personality than them because he's your cookie-cutter shonen anime protagonist, while Tiz and Seth are supposed to be audience surrogates. Seth sometimes mentions minor stuff he did as a sailor and seems more assertive, I don't recall Tiz ever saying anything about himself other than his brother dying, Norende getting destroyed and liking Agnes (actually, this is literally the extent of his personality lmao). I dunno I felt like you got to know more about tiz, and yew blows them both out of the water in terms of personality
